Kodela alleges raw deal to coastal Andhra
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD,
JAN. 18.
The Telugu Desam Party leader, Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, on Tuesday accused the Government of showing "anti- Coastal Andhra bias" by stopping release of water into the Nagarjunasagar Right Bank Canal abruptly on January 17 affecting 6.5 lakh acres in Guntur district and other areas.
He demanded that the supply of water be continued till February-end, failing which an all-party agitation would be launched.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Rao said it was unfortunate that the Government took such a decision for the first time in 40 years of Nagarjunasagar's history, without any prior notice to the farmers. There was no kharif plan drawn and the release of water itself got delayed by two months. Farmers were able to go in for sowings only in October.
