HYDERABAD, JAN.18. Justice B.K. Somasekhara, who is looking into the Yeleru land scam, directed his staff to verify whether summons were served or not on the MLA, E. Pratap Reddy, and the former minister, Reddy Satyanarayana, as they did not appear before the panel on Tuesday. The judge granted time till the next sitting to seven others who were summoned as witnesses under Section 8 B of the Commission of Inquiries Act. The officials pleaded for time to prepare their defence. Claiming to be the son of Talari Kasturi, who also failed to appear before the panel, one Vijay Anand, produced a letter stating that she was advised two-week bed rest by doctors as she was suffering from diabetes and heart problem. Regarding the second part of her submission that there was no further change in her evidence given earlier and that she needed time in case her presence was needed, Justice Somasekhara observed that the second part of submission was either betrayal or ignorance or indifference. He instructed Mr. Vijay Anand to communicate to his mother the implications of the summons and to be present at the next hearing. A retired IAS officer, K. Sukender Reddy, former chief engineer, P. Sambasiva Rao, and CE Venkata Surya Prakasa Rao, who were present, were bound over to attend the next sitting.
