Chikkalloor jatre from January 25

By Our Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR. JAN. 18. Thousands of devotees of Siddappaji from all over the State will witness the five-day jatra utsav of the saint, which will begin on January 25 at Chikkalloor in Kollegal taluk.

`Cnadramandala'

During the jatre, the devotees, along with the priest of Boppegowdanapura, pray to "Chandramandala," a tall structure made of bamboo and flowers.

Most people offer a part of the harvest to it.

The event is a testimony to communal harmony as Muslims also take part in it.

Doddavara Seve, Hulivahanotsava, Mudi Seve, Pankti Seve and Muthurayara Seve, along with other rituals, are performed as part of the festivities.

Animal sacrifice

It is alleged that a large number of animals are sacrificed as part of the jatre, though it is an offence.

The Government has arranged transportation for the devotees and supply of drinking water.

Scores of private buses and KSRTC buses ply between Chikkalloor and Kollegal during the jatre.
