Cracking the engineering entrance tests

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JAN. 18. Cracking the IIT-Joint Entrance Examinations, All-India Engineering Entrance Examinations, Pre-medical and Pre-dental and the new BITSAT online entrance of the Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, is not as tough as students and parents think.

K. Swaminathan, founder-director of Aspire Learning Company, told media persons today on the launch of scholarships worth Rs. 30 lakhs for students from Chennai and Bangalore who wish to prepare for the IIT-JEE/AIEEE/PMPD that the Merit Scholarship Test was applicable for students in classes 8, 9, 10 and 11. It would be conducted in Chennai on January 29 and at Bangalore on February 5.

"The objective is to identify potential talent to crack competitive exams," said Madhumathi N., another founder-director. The last day for submission of applications is January 27 in Chennai. Last year 1,400 candidates took the test and received scholarships worth Rs. 25 lakhs. This year around 2,500 students were expected to take the test in Chennai.

Mr. Swaminathan said: "The general opinion is that unlike the State Board syllabus, the CBSE syllabus made it easy to approach such all-India exams. But Newton's law cannot change between the Central and the State Board syllabus," he said, highlighting the need for students to be thorough with the basics.
