COIMBATORE, JAN. 19. The Sub-Committee on Trade with China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan of the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) is expecting engineering exports to these countries during 2004-05 to rise to Rs. 6,200 crores. Talking to presspersons after the inaugural meeting of the sub-committee held here on Tuesday, its Chairman, T. C. Thiagarajan, said that during 2003-04, the engineering exports to China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan was nearly Rs. 5,600 crores. Some of the main items being exported to these countries now were automobile components, electrical control gears, valves and textile and jute machinery. The sub-committee would take steps to get details of the niche market opportunities in these countries for the engineering products that were now being exported. It would also examine the measures to improve the exports to these countries, he added. Further, it was decided today to participate in trade shows in these countries. A 15-member delegation would visit China from March 13 to 20.
