Tirupati
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI, JAN. 19. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP on Wednesday held a demonstration in front of the TTD's administrative building protesting against the alleged interference of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government in the working of the TTD. The party cadre led by its State General Secretary, Bhanu Prakash Reddy lashed out that the interference had increased particularly after the present TTD Trust Board assumed office and condemned the decision of the TTD Board to fritter away devotees' money amounting to Rs. 50 lakhs on new cars for the board members. They also said flayed the local Congress leaders and the State Government for conveniently forgetting the problems of the Tirumala locals -- an issue which they effectively made use of to win the Tirupati MLA and MP seats. The party functionaries were particularly critical about the latest move of the TTD Trust Board to divert surplus funds of the TTD to private banks giving a go-by to the age-old practice of depositing only in nationalised banks. The demonstration assumes importance in the context of the Trust Board meeting scheduled for Thursday in Tirumala amid rumours that the funds diversion issue, which rocked the last meeting eventually forcing the Board Chairman, T. Subbarami Reddy, to explain about it, might figure again.
