HYDERABAD, JAN.19. The city Committee of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) has demanded shifting of the Hyderabad district collectorate and all the offices of the Government departments to the vacant old Gandhi Medical College building complex at Basheerbagh. The proposal would not only help in locating all the offices of Government departments in proximity to the district Collectorate but would also be easily accessible to the people coming to the nearby Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, the committee in a release said. Several Government departments were functioning from private buildings due to lack of space in the existing Collectorate complex at Nampally and the visitors to the Collectorate were forced to park their vehicles on the road side for want of parking space thus adding to the traffic congestion, it said. By shifting the Collectorate to the Old Gandhi Medical College complex, the Government would not only save annually about Rs. 30 lakhs on rent, but would also solve the traffic and parking problems, it added.
