Partly cloudy sky

The night temperature is likely to be around 16 degrees Celsius on Thursday and the sky partly cloudy.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 29.2 degrees C and minimum 15 degrees C and relative humidity 41 per cent.

Beef shops to be closed The modern abattoir at Chengicherla (beef section) and the retail beef shops within the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) limits should remain closed on January 21 and January 22 on account of `Bakrid', the MCH informed in a press release.

Sports meet

Gitanjali School held its annual sports meet here on January 16. A series of events, including, march-past and bamboo drill besides display of aerobics, yoga and karate marked the colourful show. The Sapphire House won the march past shield while Diamond House walked away with the best all round performance shield.

The director, NCC, Andhra Pradesh, Col. M.V. Moogi, exhorted students to give due importance to sports and not just academics.

Sports tourney

The Nizam Institute of Engineering and Technology, in association with the St. Mary's College of Engineering and Technology, is hosting the third Inter Collegiate Sports Tournament for the JNTU and its affiliated colleges on January 22 and 23 at the Nizam Institute of Engineering and Technology, Deshmukhi, Near Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. Music contests

The Pallavi Academy of Fine Arts, Habsiguda is conducting Music and dance competitions for sub-junior, junior and senior categories on January 23. Applications can be obtained from the Academy. ICFAI gesture

The staff of ICFAI National College here has collected Rs.1,06,996 for the benefit of the tsunami-hit people. Thirty-one demand drafts for the amount were handed over to The Hindu Relief Fund today. The college has also sent relief material consisting of bed-sheets, medicines and toiletries to the affected regions.

Function postponed

The foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Air Cargo Complex at the IA office campus, Begumpet, by the Major Industries Minister, B. Satyanarayana, on January 20 has been postponed.

This was stated in a press release by the general manager of the complex.
