Meet on encroachment of Idgah land on Feb. 5

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 19. A meeting is being convened on February 5 with the Hyderabad Collector, officials of the Revenue Department and the Wakf Board to look into the issue of encroachment of Idgah land at Miralam.

This was stated by Mohd Ali Shabbir, Minister for Information and Public Relations, here on Wednesday. Mr. Shabbir visited the Miralam Idgah along with the Minorities Welfare Minister, Mohd. Fareeduddin, to take stock of the arrangements made for the Id prayers.

In view of the large turnout of Muslims for prayers, the Idgah required to be extended. But this had become difficult with a portion of its land encroached upon towards the Miralam lake.

Mr. Shabbir felt the matter did not brook any delay. He wanted a date to be fixed for sorting out the issue. The Wakf Board Chief Executive Officer, Mirza Hasan Ali Baig, said the original area of the Idgah was 22,152 sq. yards.

But quite a sizable portion of it was encroached with some legal hairs of old nawabs staking claim. The matter was pending before court.

Mr. Baig informed the Ministers that the Wakf Board would be making arrangements for providing mineral water to those coming for Id prayers on Friday. Shaminas had already been put up all over the Idgah and carpets laid out.

Id prayers at Miralam Idgah and Mecca Masjid would take place at 9.30 a.m. and at the Royal Mosque in Public Gardens at 8.30 a.m.

The Police Commissioner, Dinesh Reddy, said that all arrangements would be made for smooth flow of traffic on the Idgah road.

The Additional Commissioner, A.K. Khan, the DCP Traffic, Tejdeep Kaur, and the Collector, Arvind Kumar, were also present.
