Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Supreme Court's verdict upholding the dismissal of an employee for habitual sleeping during the office hours is significant. Employees who consider it their birthright to shirk duty but draw wages deserve to be dealt with strictly.
N.K. Vijayan,
* * * Sir, The verdict no doubt is praiseworthy. But what about the bureaucrats and officials in the Central and State Government offices who have been sleeping over even urgent matters for years with their eyes wide open? This has retarded progress for nearly six decades after Independence. India occupies the 127th place in the UNDP's Human Development Index out of 179 nations. When is our Government going to wake up?
H.A.B. Parpia,
