HYDERABAD, JAN. 20. Bhagavatham, the popular mythological serial has been adjudged the best serial on ETV while Chakravakam won the distinction on Gemini. The Zingaro Vaartha Vasavi TV Awards-2004 which, were announced on Thursday recognised Evari Gola Varide as the best serial on Maa TV and Siri on Doordarshan. The awards to be presented at a glittering show at Shilparamam's Mountain Heights on Saturday evening include best actor credit for Prabhakar (Endamavulu on ETV) and best actress for Jahnavi (Padmavyuham on ETV). For his performance in Bhagavatham, AVS has been selected for the best supporting actor award and Jyoti Reddy (Edi Nijam on ETV) as best supporting actress. Brain of Andhra on Maa TV won two awards including the best feature and also the best female anchor award for Jhansi. The best male anchor went to Venu Madhav (Once More Please on Gemini). Naga Babu (Santosham on ETV) would be presented the best character award and Jackie, the best villain award for ETV's Endamavulu.
Best musical feature
In the best musical feature category, Padalani Vundi on Maa TV won the award while `9 PM with Ravi Prakash' of TV 9 was chosen as the best news feature. The best film based feature award went to Life Is Beautiful on Gemini. The other award winners include K.L.N.Rao (best news reader), Suman (best writer and best title song for Endamavulu and Aloukika respectively), B. Laxman Rao (best writer for Maa Punya Kshetralu) and Gangadhar (best singer for Ganga). Bunty and Koteshwar Rao were selected for best music director (Chakravakam) and best director (Kavyanjali) awards. Udayabhanu would be honoured as popular TV star and Shilpa Chakravarthi as best all rounder. Devdas Kankala would be presented with the Life Time Achievement Award while Sameer gets the Zingaro TV Monagadu award. The awards for excellence on Telugu television channels were being presented on the basis of selections made through viewer's poll, says the television actor and director, K.V. Pradeep. The ballot paper was published for a week in Vaartha and ballot boxes were also placed at several retail outlets in the city. "We received 18,395 responses and awards are presented based on them," he says.
Union Minister to attend
The awards presentation ceremony would have the participation of the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Jaipal Reddy, apart from the who's who of Telugu telly industry.
