Uniform ticket for Kalyanothsavam at Tirumala

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. Jan. 20. The Tirumal Tirupati Devasthams Trust Board, which met today at Tirumala with its Chairman, T. Subbarami Reddy in the chair, decided to dispense with the dual category Kalyanothsavam ticket and instead switch over to a uniform mode of Rs.1,000 a ticket.

Under the system in force, two categories of tickets were being sold for the Kalyanothsavam. Under the first category, the ticket was priced at Rs.2,500 and five persons were allowed and five big laddus and vadas were given. Under the other category, the ticket was priced at Rs.750 and only two persons were eligible and one laddu and a vada given to the ticket-holder.

Briefing mediapersons about the Board resolutions, Mr. Subbarami Reddy said that with the abolition of the two-slab system, more number of pilgrims could participate in the coveted seva. He said for the benefit of those sitting at the far-end of the Kalyanotsavam Mandapam, the TTD Board had decided to install three plasma TV screens at different points each at a cost of Rs.6 lakhs.

Another resolution taken by the Board was to constitute a five-member sub-committee to go into the grievances of the TTD employees and submit a report for their redressal. Mr. Reddy said that the Central Government had agreed in principle to the Rs.120-crore proposal submitted by the TTD-run SVIMS for its upgradation and modernisation.

Earlier at a simple ceremony in the temple, I. Venkateswarlu was sworn in as the new Commissioner of Endowments. He would henceforth be an ex-officio member of the TTD Trust Board as per the TTD Act.
