BANGALORE, JAN. 20. Students taking distance education courses of Bangalore University will now have more venues to attend contact classes. The Bangalore University Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education has decided to increase the duration of contact classes from the current 10 hours to 15 hours in each subject from the current academic year. The Director of Distance Education, B.C. Mylarappa, said that the contact classes for various courses of under-graduate studies would be held at affiliated colleges, including R.C. College of Commerce, Maharani's Arts and Science College for Women, and VHD Institute of Home Science. Contact classes for post-graduate courses in Kannada, English, Sociology, Political Science, History, Economics, M.Com and M.Sc Mathematics will be held at the related departments on the Janana Bharati campus and at the Central College campus. The Director has asked all distance education students to attend at least 12 of the 15 classes conducted for them. Those who fail to do so will not allowed to take the examinations. The details of the classes had been sent to all students. Following requests from various quarters and in the interest of students, the university had agreed to consider increasing payments for teachers involved in contact classes, he said..
