Three landmines unearthed

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, JAN. 20. The police unearthed three landmines planted by Maoists in two different places in the district on Thursday. They were allegedly aimed at killing the police parties on the combing operation.

According to the police, two landmines were unearthed on the Katrimala forest area in Pamidi mandal and another was found at the Penna Ahobilam temple area in Uravakonda mandal.

The unearthing of landmines made the intentions of Maoists taking the police head-on clear. The landmines at Katrimala were planted outside the village, one each on either side of the road and were connected in a series with the help of a cable.

Another landmine was planted on the roadside pit between Anantapur and Uravakonda near Penna Ahobilam temple. They were unearthed by the bomb disposal squad and brought to the district headquarters.
