Jana feels relieved

The Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, expressed the Government's happiness that the bandh was "peaceful and devoid of any incident."

When asked about the encounter in Karimnagar district, Mr Reddy, however, said such incidents would take place in a particular context.

He hastened to add that the Government had called for a report from the SP.

Speaking to reporters after a review of the bandh by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he said they were seriously thinking of taking some steps to resolve the present deadlock and resume the talks.

One immediate step would be to have discussions with elders/mediators.

He appealed to Maoists to exercise restraint.
