Bush calls up Manmohan

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 20. The United States' President, George W. Bush, telephoned the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, on Wednesday night and appreciated the work done by India in coping with the tsunami disaster.

A source in the Prime Minster's Office quoted Mr. Bush as telling Dr. Singh that not only had India dealt with its own crisis, but the Indian navy had also given assistance to Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

The source added that Mr. Bush told the Prime Minister that he was looking forward to visiting India later this year.

Dr. Singh hoped that the visit would take place soon.
