NEW DELHI, JAN. 20. A gang allegedly involved in stealing mobile phones in the Capital and then disposing them of in Uttar Pradesh has been busted by the Central Delhi police. The police have arrested four persons in this connection and recovered two-dozen stolen mobile phones. According to the police, the accused -- Arif, Saleem, Vijay Kumar and Madan Grover -- were arrested in raids over the past couple of days. One Tata Indica car used in the crime, a laptop computer and 24 mobile phones were recovered from them. The police said Arif and Saleem would hire the vehicle, which was driven by Vijay Kumar, from Meerut. They would come to Delhi and select busy traffic intersections or roads -- like Rajghat, Deshbandhu Gupta Road and New Rohtak Road -- and park the car by the roadside. Arif and Saleem would then come out of the car while keeping Vijay on alert. They used to select vehicles whose windows had been rolled down and mobile phones kept on the dashboard. One of them used to "collide" with the car and pick up an argument with the driver who generally used to be the only person in the vehicle. In the meantime, the second accused used to pick up the mobile phone from the other side. The gang would then sit in their car and return to Meerut. They usually waited for about half an hour looking for a target and then, if they could not get one, move to the next point. The accused used to sell the stolen phone to Madan. The gang had also developed a code to alert each other about the presence of police. Further investigations are on.
