NEW DELHI, JAN. 20. A 25-year-old man has been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly killing his wife at Vasant Vihar in South-West Delhi on January 16. He had allegedly been torturing his wife for dowry. According to the police, a woman, identified as Meenakshi, had been declared brought dead at Safdarjung Hospital on January 16. Her husband, Surender Tokas, claimed that she had fallen from her third floor house. However, the police suspected Surender's version. The area Sub-Divisional Magistrate was informed about the incident. Meenakshi's family members told the SDM that she was being tortured by Surender and his family members for dowry since the marriage. The SDM directed the police to register a case of cruelty by husband and murder. The police gathered further information about Surender's behaviour towards his wife following which he was arrested. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had badly beaten up his wife on the fateful day. She had sustained serious injuries on her head which led to her death.
Auto-lifters nabbed
Three young men have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly being involved in auto-lifting. Six stolen vehicles have been recovered at their instance and 15 cases have been solved. According to the police, the accused -- identified as Prem Kumar, Noor Mohammad and Yogesh -- were arrested from Gokulpuri on Tuesday. At their instance, the police recovered a Maruti Esteem car, four motorcycles and a scooter. A bunch of duplicate keys was also recovered. Interrogation revealed that they used to give the vehicles to many receivers for disposal.
