NEW DELHI, JAN. 20. An officer posted with the Enforcement Branch of the Delhi Government's Food and Civil Supplies Department and a kerosene trader have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 2 lakhs from a person for not impounding his oil tanker. Both the accused have been remanded to CBI custody. According to the CBI, a written complaint was received from the tanker owner, who used to supply light diesel used in factories, in which he mentioned that the Food Supply Officer (FSO), Kuldeep Dhankar, was demanding Rs. 2 lakhs for not impounding his vehicle. He also told the complainant to pay the bribe amount to Sanjay Gupta, a kerosene trader, who was acting as his tout. Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap at the office of the accused on Tuesday evening and arrested Sanjay when he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount. Subsequently, the FSO was also arrested. The CBI has recovered several documents from the office and the Model Town residence of the FSO. However, there has been no recovery of unaccounted cash. There were many complaints against the officer earlier also, CBI sources said adding: "He was a relatively young officer and was getting plum postings due to his contacts." The CBI sleuths are now trying to find out the places where the accused officer may have hidden the cash. "The documents are also being scrutinised to find out if he was holding property valued at a price disproportionate to his known sources of income, " the officer said. Sanjay's assets are also being scrutinised. The CBI said he had been with Kuldeep all along and had a share in the bribe amount. Meanwhile, both the accused have been remanded to three-day CBI custody by the Special Judge, H.P. Sharma. Further investigations are on.
