Uttar Pradesh
LUCKNOW, JAN 20 . Expressing displeasure over the appointment of four vice chancellors by Governor T.V. Rajeswar without consulting it, the Uttar Pradesh government today said the delay in Raj Bhavan's nod to a bill on the same subject has "peeved'' the regime. A bill passed in the last assembly session for inducting a secretary-level official in the sub-committee on appointment of vice chancellors is still pending with the Governor, State Minister for Higher Education Ram Ashrey Viskarma told reporters here today. "The delay in Governor's nod to the bill has peeved the government specially at a time when four vice chancellors were appointed without consulting the government," Vishkarma said. "The tradition of consulting the government over the appointment of the vice chancellors has not been adhered to,'' he said adding that the Governor had recently appointed vice chancellors of Agra, Faizabad, Gorakhpur and Lucknow Universities. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav will look into the matter and we could request the Governor to give his nod to the bill at the earliest, Vishkarma said. Vishkarma, who represented the state at a recent meeting of higher education ministers of various states in Bangalore, said that he strongly opposed setting up of foreign universities. -- PTI
