BAREILLY, JAN 20 . A shortfall of Rs 300 crore is expected in the excise revenue target fixed by the Uttar Pradesh government in the current financial year. The state government had fixed the target of Rs 3,000 crore, to be earned through the sale of alcohol, for the year 2004-05, but going by the available records, a 10 per cent loss in the fixed target is perceivable, Excise department Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar Chaturvedi said here. Hence, Rs 2700 crore is expected to be earned this year, Mr Chaturvedi said adding that the excise department was the second largest source of government revenue in the state. He said the maximum excise revenue is earned through the sale of country and foreign liquor. The official informed that a target of earning Rs 376.28 crore had been fixed for the Bareilly division this financial year and 90 per cent of this target is expected to be realised. -- UNI
