Uttaranchal
DEHRA DUN, JAN 20. A proposal seeking to regularise the use of plastic in Uttaranchal was rejected in the house by voice vote today. The Private Member Bill that sought to amend Organic and Non-Organic Waste Act was introduced in the house by BJP member Prakash Pant who said the dumping of plastic wastes in drains and other public places should be banned. The waste should be segregated into organic and non-organic ones to enable the authorities equitable disposal. Violators should be punished, he said. Replying to the bill, the Environment and Forests minister Nabprabaht rejected his pleas on the grounds that there were enough laws to tackle each of the sections mentioned by him. -- UNI
