KANCHEEPURAM, JAN. 20 . The Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-I, G. Uthamaraj, today extended the judicial custody of Sundaresa Iyer, the manager of Kanchi Sankara Mutt, till February 3. Mr. Sundaresa Iyer was brought to the court at around 2.30 p.m. and the Magistrate informed him that his judicial custody was being extended by another 15 days. Later, he was taken back to Chennai Central Prison. Mr. Sundaresa Iyer was arrested by the special investigation team probing the Sankararaman murder case on December 24 last and produced before the court on December. The court remanded him to judicial custody till January 7. The court again extended Mr. Sundaresa Iyer's judicial custody by another 14 days till January 20. Meanwhile, on January 12 he was produced before Mr. Uthamaraj by the special investigation team, which alleged that Mr. Sundaresa Iyer and Mr. `kaladi' Viswanatha Iyer, Mutt accountant, had tampered with the Mutt's account records. The Magistrate remanded Mr. Sundaresa Iyer till January 20 in this case. On January 17, theSiva Kanchi Police Inspector, A.Muniyappan sought seven days of police custody for Mr. Sundaresa Iyer in connection with the tampering of accounts case. However, the court granted police custody for Mr. Sundaresa Iyer from 5-40 p.m. on January 17 to 5-20 p.m. on January 18.
