NEW DELHI, JAN. 20. While emphasising the need for incorporating disability and rehabilitation concepts in the curriculum of schools and universities, the Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies has demanded that a national task force on disability be set up soon. In a memorandum submitted to the President, A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, this week, the Society requested him to look into the ineffective implementation of the PWD Act and the Office of the Chief Commissioners for Persons with Disabilities. Stressing the need for a qualitative improvement in the quality of education and training programmes by adopting appropriate technologies through innovative methods, the Society has also called for involvement of local communities, bodies and people in the policy planning of disabilities. The delegation also sought the President's involvement in setting up of a Committee on the lines of the White House committee to monitor and supervise the implementation of Constitutional and Legal provisions related to persons with disabilities.
