BANGALORE, JAN. 20. The Karnataka Catholic Christians Kannada Association has condemned and opposed the conducting of the "Festival of Blessings," a prayer meeting to be addressed by the evangelist Benny Hinn from January 21 to 23 in the city. J.R. Perraira, association president, told presspersons here on Wednesday that Hindus and the Catholic Christians in the State had been greatly pained by pamphlets issued by the organisers condemning idol worship. "Not just our Hindu brethren, but the Catholic Christians believe in idol worship as we worship the idol of Jesus Christ. It is wrong on the part of the organisers to propagate statements against idol worship," he said. "We are against the prayer meeting and have decided to boycott it," he said. Members of the association have urged the Archbishop of Bangalore to take a stand against the prayer meeting and the evangelist. He and other Catholic religious leaders should urge people from the community not to attend the prayer meeting and they themselves should not be involved in such programmes, they said.
