BANGALORE, JAN. 20. A four-member gang barged into a house in Viveknagar Police Station limits on Wednesday and robbed five MBA students of five gold chains, six rings and five mobile phones, all worth Rs. 44,000. Using the ATM cards of students, the assailants withdrew Rs. 31,000 from two ATMs. The police said the incident took place at a house on 2nd D Cross, Ejipura, where four MBA students from Kerala are staying. One of their friends, Libu John, a resident of Koramangala, was with them when the incident took place. Around 8.30 p.m. someone knocked on the door. When John opened the door, four men barged in. They threatened the students with swords and relieved them of gold jewellery and mobile phones. They took their ATM cards, found out the personal identification numbers and withdrew cash from two ATMs in Koramangala and Mahatma Gandhi Road, the police said. While two of the assailants went to the ATMs, two others stood guard at the house. On a complaint by John, the Viveknagar police have registered a case. All the five are students of a private college on Dickenson Road, the police said. Electrocuted: A building contractor from Davanagere, Mohammed Habib (30), was electrocuted when he reportedly touched a Bangalore Electricity Supply Company transformer near Government Ayurvedic College in Upparpet Police Station limits on Wednesday night. The police said Habib, after answering nature's call, touched the transformer and collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. The Upparpet police have registered a case. Habib had taken a contract to build houses under the Ashraya scheme at Kengeri. After buying new clothes for his children for Bakrid, Habib was on his way to the KSRTC bus terminus to catch a bus to Davanagere, the police said. Chain snatched: A youth snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 6,000 from a girl who was returning home from tuition in Wilson Garden Police Station limits on Wednesday. The police said the youth came from behind and snatched the chain from Meena, a SSLC student, in Sudhamanagar around 8 p.m. The Wilson Garden police have registered a case. Equipment stolen: A lungs testing equipment worth Rs. 1.10 lakh was stolen on Wednesday night from the Palace Grounds where a health exhibition is on. The police said M.S. Nagaraj, a medical representative, had kept the equipment on his scooter seat and was talking on his mobile phone. On a complaint by Nagaraj, the High Grounds police have registered a case. Pedestrians killed: Two pedestrians were killed in hit-and-run cases reported from Madivala Police Station limits. Shivanna (40) of Koodlu Gate was killed when a vehicle ran over him on Hosur Road, off Wipro, around 11.15 p.m. on Wednesday. In another incident, a man aged around 35 was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near Garvebaviplaya around 5.45 a.m. on Thursday. The Madivala traffic police have registered cases. Vehicles recovered: The Sampangiramnagar police on Wednesday arrested two persons and recovered from them seven two-wheelers worth Rs. 2 lakhs. The names of the arrested were given as Arun Kumar (23) and Muniraja (21) of Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu. The accused had stolen the vehicles from R.T.Nagar, Madivala, BTM Layout and Sampangiramnagar Police Station limits, the police said. In another case, the Ashoknagar police on Tuesday arrested two persons on charges of extortion and vehicle theft and recovered from them 10 two-wheelers and mobile phones, all worth Rs. 4 lakhs. The arrested were identified as Chandru alias Jacob, Kiran and Yesu. Arrested: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Wednesday arrested Gopal (43) of Kadugodi on charges of cheating a company in Singapore by supplying fake aluminium powder.
