Financier held

The Bhavani Nagar police arrested an old city-based financier, Shaik Abdullah Rahman, who was allegedly charging exorbitant interest rates from the poor, on Thursday. The police seized 186 ration cards, over 200 kerosene coupons and books of Civil Supplies Department, 137 blank non-judicial stamp papers and other material from him.

According to the police, Rahman, as security towards the money lent, used to forcibly execute signatures of the borrowers on blank non-judicial stamp papers and also take away their ration cards including kerosene coupons.

He used to allegedly draw kerosene and food grains from the local fair price shop on behalf of the borrowers and stock them at the kirana store he owned at Javed Nagar. Following complaints from locals, the police arrested him.

Police raid

The Chikkadpally police on Wednesday arrested 30 punters allegedly indulging in gambling after raiding the Mega City Friends and Sports Cultural Association at Ashoknagar. An amount of Rs. 12,450 was seized from their possession. The arrested were reportedly playing a game of cards and betting money.
