Letters to the Editor
Sir, The three-day prayer meeting of American evangelist Benny Hinn that began today has stirred up several controversies. Many religious outfits, doctors, advocates, writers, politicians, and sections of the media have expressed their concern. One wonders why so much money is being spent by a foreign missionary in India. Is there an ulterior motive? Indian priests should be encouraged to address such gatherings, if they have to be held.
B.N. Gangadhar,
* * * Sir, The miracle healer's "Prayer for India" has already attracted widespread protests from Hindu mutts, Christian groups, and intellectuals. Doctors have expressed concern over people being led to believe that miracles can cure.
J.S. Acharya,
* * * Sir, The organisers of the Festival of Blessings should have made it an all-religion festival. They should have invited leaders of different religions to participate.
George Olivera,
