Smokeless wonder for a greener city

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JAN. 21. The Industries Minister, P.G.R Sindhia, took a trip down memory lane on Friday as he remembered the salad days as a student at R.V. College of Engineering. In those days Bangalore was cleaner and greener city and he had Anil Ananthakrishna for a college mate. "I can see that he is doing what Rahul Bajaj succeeded in doing with his scooters three decades ago. Only he is doing it in an environment friendly way," he said.

The Minister was launching the battery-run two-wheelers of Eko vehicles, founded by Mr. Ananthakrishna. Mr. Sindhia said Mr. Ananthakrishna had always displayed an adventurous spirit, and somehow, it seemed natural that it translated into a venture that could help make the world a greener and cleaner place. Mr. Sindhia promised to consider giving Sales Tax exemption for these battery-operated vehicles. He may encourage government officials to switch over to such vehicles.

The Transport Minister, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, who attended the launch, complimented Mr. Ananthakrishna for being a pioneer in finding answers to the search for alternatives to fossil fuels.
