PONDICHERRY, JAN. 21. At a fancy dress competition held recently, the students of the Vallalar Government Higher Secondary School at Kandamangalam won the hearts of the staff and audience. The competition was conducted by the Tamil Ilakkiya Mandram in the school for students of classes VI to XII. P. Prabakaran, a class VI student, was dressed as a tree to send out the message that we need to protect trees and save the environment. He received the first prize from the Headmaster, V. Sundaramoorthy. The Assistant Headmaster, V. Sethuraman, and the Tamil scholar, N. Deivasigamany, also addressed the gathering. Kamatchi of class VII wore a costume that conveyed the agony and misery of the tsunami victims. She won the second prize. The Assistant Headmaster, M. Gnanajyothi, proposed a vote of thanks.
