WARANGAL, JAN. 21. The National Institute of Technology (NIT) proposes to offer several new M Tech level courses in environmental engineering and materials technology in addition to two more courses in disaster mitigation and management and another in information security education and awareness from the next academic year. Going by the response from the students, the NIT is contemplating starting a PG level course in disaster mitigation and management from the current semester. The DRDL, Hyderabad, a premier research organisation, has come forward to collaborate with the NIT in course design and offer practical training to the students.
Elective subject
In an exclusive interview to The Hindu, NIT director D. K. Tripathi said soon after the tsunami disaster, the NIT decided to offer a paper in disaster mitigation and management as an elective to civil engineering students. As many as 30 students have enrolled for the course. Enthused by the response and queries from working executives, it was decided to start a full-time course. The Department of Information Technology, Government of India, chose NIT, Warangal, as one among the few and accorded permission to introduce a course in information security education and awareness that was aimed at prevention of hacking of domains, safeguarding confidential information and preventing unauthorised entry into one's domain.
