TIRUCHI, JAN. 21 . National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets must be aware of the problems and should develop an ability to lead in all walks of life, speakers at the valedictory function of the combined annual training camp said here on Wednesday. Addressing the cadets, Colonel P.S. James, Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Tiruchi, said drill and other activities were being conducted aimed at developing leadership qualities among NCC cadets. Since leadership was all about action, the cadets must use the leadership training they received in live situation to develop that quality. Stating that the knowledge base of the cadets was enormous, he advised them to make use of it. Appreciating the cadets for their timely help and assistance to tsunami victims, he said this kind of exposure would improve their confidence and leadership level in them. The cadets had been involved in not only shelter building for the tsunami-affected people in Nagapattinam district but also repairing of motors of catamarans used by fishermen. He said 25 cadets from the Tiruchi Group had been selected for the Republic Day camp this year. Earlier, Colonel James made a presentation on the role of NCC cadets and the way they must act when tsunamis struck. Giving away prizes to cadets who emerged winners in competitions conducted during the course of the camp, Radha Chellappan, Registrar (in-charge), Bharathidasan University, said the cadets must know their strengths and weaknesses prior to embarking on a task and must have a definite plan regarding their career. Advising the cadets to develop self-confidence, she said this would greatly help them in their career and life in the long run. The overall best award went to the Delta Company.
