By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUCHI, JAN.21. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Kumbakonam) has emerged top in the State, netting a profit of Rs.28 crores up to December in the current financial year, the Managing Director, V. Dravida Mani, said here today. The sharp increase in revenue collection in the current year and reduction of costs mainly thanks to diesel conservation had enabled the Corporation to occupy the premier position, he said while presiding over the Fuel Conservation Fortnight celebrations, jointly organised by the TNSTC and the Indian Oil Corporation. He said through diesel conservation alone, the Corporation was able to save a sum of Rs.6.21 crores between April and December. The Corporation comprises four regions Tiruchi, Kumbakonam, Karaikudi and Pudukottai. The Corporation, he said, was spending nearly half of its revenue in buying diesel and stressed the need for improving the performance in diesel conservation measures. Appreciating the drivers, engineers and technicians in improving the Kilo Metre Per Litre (KMPL), he said constant efforts should be taken in saving diesel to help the corporation reduce its expenditure on fuel. The TNSTC General Manager, K. Moorthy, said campaigns had created an awareness among bus drivers, technicians and engineering staff of conserving diesel over the years. The campaigns had resulted in 800 kilolitres of diesel being saved in Tiruchi region alone in the last one year. Thrust was being given on competency, skill while imparting training to the drivers, which ultimately resulted in saving fuel, he said. Fuel conservation helped the Corporation in cutting down its expenditure, he added. The Senior Regional Manager (Customer and Sales) of IOC, Madurai, A. Eswaran, said the organisation had been presenting awards to drivers and technicians to motivate them to save more fuel. The IOC, Tiruchi, Deputy Manager (Sales) S. Marimuthu, spoke. Drivers of Tiruchi Region, who had achieved best kilometre per litre, and technical staff, who had helped them were honoured.
