Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, JAN. 21. Unearthing of six powerful landmines on Thursday has led the police to suspect motive of the Maoists. The seizure also indicates more such plans scripted by the naxalite outfit. By planting three powerful landmines made of gelatine sticks and connected in a series with electric detonators on the road to Katrimala village in the hilly terrain of Pamidi mandal, was purely targeted at police parties on the job of combing operations. In fact, police parties covered the area just two days ago when a Maoist was killed in an encounter on the Katrimala hillocks near J. Rampuram village on the fringes of Mid Pennar Reservoir. The recovery of another set of three landmines near a culvert on the Anantapur-Uravakonda road in the Penna Ahobilam temple area was also an example of their meticulous design. The landmines were planted at a road curve purposefully, where the vehicles would slow down inevitably. The Maoists could have targeted politicians or the police on the main route connecting the Bellary area in Karnataka with Anantapur, Cuddapah and Chittoor districts. The district police also seized 200 gelatine sticks in Kothacheruvu mandal yesterday. The police were said to have taken into custody two naxal sympathisers in the district.
