MANGALORE, JAN. 21. To mark its silver jubilee year, the University of Mangalore will hold an exhibition showcasing its achievements in the fields of culture, heritage, society and science. According to the Chairman of the Silver Jubilee Exhibition Committee, T.R. Sridhara Murthy, the exhibition will include culture and history of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts, audio visual presentation depicting the rich cultural heritage and history at the Kannada Museum, rare photographs and a series of posters highlighting politics in the State at the Political Science department. The Departments of Applied Botany, Applied Zoology and Biosciences will display exhibits in ecology, environment and biodiversity, orchids of the Western Ghats, and endangered flora and fauna and medicinal plants of the three districts. Models of AIDS virus, DNA, animal cloning will also be on display. The departments of Commerce and Life Sciences will display the potential of coastal Karnataka and Kodagu with reference to its industrial growth and plantation crops. The departments of Physics and Geo-informatics will present advanced equipment such as telescopes and global positioning systems.
The Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, will inaugurate the exhibition on January 24 during his visit to the university for the silver jubilee convocation. It will be open to the public from January 25 to January 30. The Governor will launch "Nalanda-Mangalore University Information System", a brochure in geographic information system module.
