Visakhapatnam
By Our Special Correspondent
VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 21. The entire 28 acres of land in the heart of the city, where the central prison was located before being shifted to Adivivaram, will be handed over to Visakhapatnam Urban Devleopment Authority (VUDA). A letter to this effect has been received by the District Collector from the Special Chief Secretary to the Government, V.P. Jauhari. The Collector has been asked to hand over advance possession of the land to VUDA, pending regular alienation proposal.
Multiplex, park planned
The Government has specified that out of this extent, VUDA will develop six to seven acres towards locating an I-Max theatre and multiplex and food courts. ``The rest of the land would be turned in to a thick urban jungle with walkways and jogging track,'' it has stated. The land requirement for widening the Jail Road, as indicated by the Municipal Corporation, will also be met out of this. Taking into account the physical separation of the existing Jail Road at the Government Women's College point, the land worked out for the college is 1.90 acres, which will be an addition area over its existing 1.48 acres. The land requirement of the college is being met out of the land, which was earlier utilised for the housing of Central Prison officials, the letter says and asserts that this is a separate piece of land from the aforementioned prison land. The Collector has also been asked to transfer 100 acres of land in Survey No.336 of Madhurawada village to Simhachalam Devasthanam in lieu of the land given to the Home Department for the open prison at Adivivaram.
