``Our little bit'' for tsunami relief

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JAN. 22. How the visual coverage of the tsunami that hit some of the coastal States in India has affected the Non-Resident Indian community, especially the youth, can be seen from the kind of contributions that are pouring in everyday to `` The Hindu Relief Fund.''

Vinay Parakala, who lives in High Wycombe, a 30-minute drive from London, writes: ``I am one amongst the millions of Indians who heard and saw the tragedy unfold on TV. As a person whose roots are from Andhra Pradesh and who lived in Tamil Nadu for 26 years, it has been a very difficult time for me to even comprehend the fact that many places that I have visited and have friends in no longer exist."

Mr. Vinay went about collecting from his friends whatever they could offer. As his father works as a senior sub-editor in The Hindu , he decided to channel the contribution through its relief fund.

He has sent Rs. 1.6 lakhs to the fund and called it ``our little bit'' to the effort.
