Cuddalore
By Our Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE, JAN. 22. A bridge would be built across the Gedilam, linking Semmandalam with Kammiampettai, at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crores, according to Gagandeep Singh Bedi, District Collector. In a statement released here today, Mr Bedi said people had made representations to him earlier for the construction of a causeway to cut short the distance. But a study revealed that a causeway would be of little use, particularly whenever the river was in spate. Hence it was decided to construct a bridge. The two-lane bridge, with pedestrian pathway of 12 feet width on either side, would be constructed within nine months. The funds would be earmarked from the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana. Mr Bedi said sanction was given to improve the approach road to the bridge at a cost of Rs. 33 lakhs and the work had already been started.
