NEW DELHI, JAN. 22. With the cold wave conditions persisting and people taking to large-scale use of power guzzling heating equipment, several parts of the Capital experienced power cuts today as the demand exceeded the supply by around 250 MW. Though the power situation today was comparatively better than yesterday, when the shortfall was 350 MW, still it was not good enough to meet the needs of Delhiites, who had to brave both the cold as well as problems associated with lack of electricity supply. The Delhi Transco Limited said there was an overall shortage of power in the Northern Region as the agricultural load too has been high in the absence of winter rain. Due to inadequate water level in the reservoirs of the hydroelectric plants and due to absence of water in the rivers, it said the run-of-the-river hydro power plants such as Nathpa Jhakri were unable to function at their optimal capacity.
