NAGERCOIL, JAN.23. The Collector, Sunil Paliwal, has urged cadres of the Nehru Yuva Kendra to give psycho-social counselling to tsunami-affected children in the coastal areas of the district so that they could lead a new life. Distributing sports kits to the children at a function organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra at Melamanakudi, the Collector said steps had already been taken to provide counselling to children and women folk through non-governmental organisations. As the need of hour was to provide psychological care and support to the women who lost their dear and near ones apart from property, a medical team would be formed to provide counselling to them. Even as students started returning to normality, the NYK cadres should continue to provide counselling to them in order to pursue their education without any difficulty. The Collector also asked the general public to contact the cadres or its co-ordinator, S. Senthil Kumar, to redress their grievances. The co-ordinator would inform their grievances to the Collector for immediate remedy. He thanked representatives of various non-governmental organisations for having extended a helping hand to the district administration in ensuring speedy rescue and relief operations in tsunami-affected areas.
