CHITRADURGA, JAN. 23. A case of power theft at a coir unit in Patrahalli village of Hiriyur taluk has been detected. The vigilance squad of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company levied a fine of Rs. 6.8 lakhs. According to sources, Shankar Naik, owner of the coir unit, had tampered with the electric metre. The fraud was detected by R. Ramlingappa, Sub-divisional officer, and his team on Friday. In a series of vigilance raids in Hiriyur town, D.S. Srinivas, Assistant Engineer, detected several cases of power theft and registered cases. A fine of Rs. 25,000 was also collected, sources said.
