By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI, JAN. 23. `Metlotsavam', the three-day festival of steps will be observed at Alipiri, the foot of Tirumala hills, from January 24. Renowned Kannada Haridasas like Purandara Das, Kanaka Das and Vijaya Das initiated the practice of trekking the Tirumala hills singing bhajans and devotional songs. It is this activity that the TTD is trying to perpetuate through Dasa Sahitya Project, one of its propagation arms. Over 4,000 devotees comprising 150 bhajan troupes from across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Orissa, led by renowned `Mathadipathis' and `Peethadhipathis' will take part. The devotees will take out a procession from Govindaraja temple to Tyagaraja mandapam on Monday, start their holy trek at Alipiri Padala mandapam by chanting `Hare Srinivasa' on Tuesday and conclude it with bhajans the next day.
