Chandy urged

to protect

Halcyon Castle

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 23. The Chief Minister should take interest in fighting a legal battle over the Halcyon Castle in Kovalam and see to it that public property is not given away to a private party, the Kovalam Palace protection council has demanded. A press note issued here today said the hotel owner who claimed to have brought the castle had approached the Kerala High Court, questioning the legality of the Government's order taking over the castle.

CPI plea to

develop capital

The city conference of the Communist Party of India (CPI), in a resolution, has urged the State Government to take urgent measures to upgrade Thiruvana nthapuram to a metropolitan city. The conference expressed its opposition to the Government's move to reduce the area of the city at a time when it should be preparing the ground for developing it into a metro, a press note issued here today said.

Netaji Day observed

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary was observed in the city on Sunday under the aegis of the Netaji Forum. The celebrations were inaugurated by the former MP P. Visawambaran. The present generation should emulate the selflessness and bravery of Netaji and other freedom fighters, he said in his inaugural address.

Family counselling

A new telephone connection has been provided at the family counselling centre Karmayog under the Humanity Trust of India. The `Dial-before-divorce' calls should be made on Wednesdays and Thursdays on 3013100. On other days, telephonic counselling and OP registration can be done on this number as well as on 3097600 and 9447557999.

Tourism Club camp

The venue of the Tourism Club district camp, to be organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council on Wednesday, has been shifted from G.V. Raja Sports School, Shanghumughom, to the Kerala State Jawahar Balbhavan, Vellayambalam.

Film festival

Entries have been invited from students to participate in a campus film festival to be organised by the Film Lovers' Cultural Association (FILCA), in association with the Rotary Club of Trivandrum Metro and Government Law College, Thiruvan anthapuram. Painting classes

The Chitrakalamandalam has invited applications from school and college students who have an aptitude for painting, for participating in a coaching programme for painting. Classes will be held at the Anandapadmanabha nilayam auditorium every Saturday and Sunday. Application forms and details may be had from the secretary of the Chitrakalamandalam on 2471311. Applications must be submitted before Wednesday.
