TIRUNELVELI, JAN.24. Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Higher Secondary School Computer Teachers' Association staged a demonstration in front of the Office of the Chief Educational Officer at Kokkirakulam today. Wearing black badges, the protestors said they were recruited to work in government schools on a contract basis for a period of five years. As the contract period ended in August 2004, the Director of School Education ordered that the computer teachers be given a consolidated pay of Rs.1,500 as salary from the funds available with the District Parent - Teachers Association. However, even the "paltry" amount was not given to the teachers for the past few months citing the reason that there was no surplus fund with the PTA to give salary to the computer teachers, the protestors said.
