VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 24. A large number of Telugu Desam Party leaders and workers staged a `rasta roko' at the RTC complex junction and Aseelmetta junction here on Monday in protest against the murder of party leader and MLA, Paritala Ravi, at Anantapur. Even as the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was expected to reach the city late in the evening to continue his Rajiv Nagara Bata, the TDP men pulled down banners put up by the Congress leaders to welcome Dr. Reddy, deflated tyres and tried to break the glass panes of some APSRTC buses but any further damage was prevented by the police who turned up in a large number. Later, the TDP supporters marched to the party office in Pandimetta to chalk out the programme to implement the State bandh call given by the party on Tuesday. The Deputy Mayor, Malla Appala Raju, the Chairman of the Standing Committee, P. G. K. Varma, the Leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation, M. Mutyala Naidu, several corporators and party leaders participated in the protest programme.
Ex-MP condemns killing
Meanwhile, the former TDP MP, M.V.V.S. Murthi, condemned the murder. "It indicated the poor law and order situation prevailing in the State," he said. The former Minister, Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, also condemned the killing.
