By Our Special Correpondent
HYERABAD,
JAN. 24.
A coronary artery bypass surgery was performed by doctors at Mahavir Hospital recently on a 55-year-old man whose heart was on the right side of the chest.
The patient, Sleeva Reddy from Phirangipuram, Guntur, was having dextrocardia with situs inversus (right side heart and abdominal organs) and suffering from triple vessel coronary artery disease.
After initial evaluation at Guntur following chest pain and palpitations, cardiac surgeons at Mahavir performed the surgery and used five grafts to bypass the diseased coronary vessels.
Talking to reporters in the presence of the patient here today, the cardio-thoracic surgeon, K.V. Krishna Kumar, and the cardiologist, Srinath, said that one in 10,000 were affected by dextrocardia.
