SRINAGAR, JAN. 24. Militants today fired a rifle grenade at the motorcade of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti, in the capital's Nowshehra locality injuring one policeman. The PDP chief was campaigning for the February 1 civic polls. Ms. Mehbooba was accompanied by a number of party leaders, including the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ghulam Hassan Mir. The Srinagar Senior Superintendent of Police, Syed Ahmad Sayeed, said there was no damage. "We are investigating the matter," he said. The PDP chief said she was not sure about the kind of explosion. "We were busy with the campaign and we continued our visit even after that and there was a good response."
