NEW DELHI, JAN. 24. The Moolchand Kharaiti Ram Hospital administration doesn't seem to be able to wish away its troubles. After its nursing staff approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) alleging harassment and human rights violations by the management, the hospital was plagued by talk about various sections of the hospital being shut down. And now the authorities have been served with a final "show cause" notice asking for an explanation for illegal construction in the area allotted to it. The notice has come even as the hospital administration is busy unveiling an ambitious expansion project to set up a four-zone top-of-the-line medical and educational institution. According to the letter dated December 21, 2004, issued by the Union Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Land and Development Office, inspection of the premises revealed misuse and unauthorised construction. The letter written to the hospital authorities said the plans submitted by it in 1990 were not sanctioned. The hospital has now been given the final opportunity to rectify the breaches and remove the unauthorised construction, failing which further action would be taken against them, which could include cancellation of allotment of land in accordance with the terms of the lease deed. Responding to the letter, the honorary executive director of Moolchand Hospital, Vibhu Talwar, said: "We have re-sent our papers to the department telling them that the said sanctions asked for had been obtained way back in 1990 itself. Also, there are no unauthorised constructions anywhere in the hospital area. The hospital has been here for the past 50 years and we are not ready to accept any false claims." According to the letter sent by the hospital, the administration has pointed out that "in respect to unauthorised construction and misuse it is already clarified time and again that there is no misuse and any construction (purely temporary) have been done to meet with the requirement of patient care. Most areas have since been demolished which were shown to the team at the time of inspection and the rest of the areas are being considered for demolishing and regularisation by Municipal Corporation of Delhi."
