HYDERABAD, JAN.24. The Speaker, K. R. Suresh Reddy, expressed shock at the news of the "heinous" killing of Ravindra. He condemned the murder and conveyed his heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), an ally of the Congress, described the killing as the "most gruesome incident" and a "dastardly act". In a statement issued here, the TRS leaders -- S. Madusudhana Chary and K. Yadagiri Reddy -- said the daylight murder of a people's representative was a setback to democratic and human values. Expressing displeasure over the Government's alleged failure to prevent the killing, the leaders wanted strong steps to be taken to prevent political killings in Rayalaseema.
BJP worried
The State BJP president, N. Indrasena Reddy, felt that the rising political killings in the State reflected the Government's "fascist" tendencies. He deplored killing of rivals for trying to gain power as they went against the democratic spirit. The BJP leaders -- B. Dattatreya, G. Kishan Reddy and K. Laxman -- condemning the murder, took the Government to task for its alleged failure to provide security to the TDP legislator. Mr. Dattatreya demanded resignation of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, taking moral responsibility.
Left parties' plea
The State units of the CPI and the CPI (M) called upon the Government to take stringent measures to ensure law and order and to prevent faction killings. S. Sudhakar Reddy, MP, and party secretary, in a statement urged both sides to observe restraint. In another statement, B.V.Raghavulu, CPI(M) secretary, described the incident as heinous and barbaric and said faction murders in the district were hampering the region's development.
