Drop in humidity

Gannavaram airport recorded maximum temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius and minimum of 20.7 degrees Celsius on Monday. Humidity which was 88 per cent in the morning dropped to 65 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

Following are the prices (in rupees per kg.) of the essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Monday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - 49, palmolein oil - 38.25, sunflower oil - 49, tamarind (flower variety) - 19 to 25, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 32 to 36, chillies (AC) - 20 to 27, chillies (non-AC) - 12 to 14, rice (2716) - 12, rice (superfine) - 12.50, rice (samba masoori) - 14 to 14.50, rice (sona masoori) - 15 to 16, black gram - 18.35 to 21.70, red gram - 21.60 to 27.20.

Mala Mahanadu demand

The Krishna district unit of Mala Mahanadu has demanded that the Government take steps for effective implementation of GO Ms. No. 91 scrapping the categorisation of Scheduled Castes in all its offices. The organisation has decided to stage dharnas all over the State on January 31 in protest against the delay in dispatching the orders to all the offices at district and mandal levels. At a meeting convened here on Monday, the Mala Mahanadu district president, Pantangi Ramesh, appealed to the people to cooperate in the protest programme.

Aid for tsunami-hit

The management, staff and students of Bharat Public School, Bhavanipuram, have donated Rs. 2001 towards the Chief Minister's Tsunami Relief Fund. Representatives of the school handed over a demand draft to the Vijayawada Urban Mandal Revenue Officer on Monday.
